One of the conditions is that MCSA membership cards must be carried. The owners of the private property we cross (or their staff) can ask to see these and can refuse entry to anyone who cannot produce their card. No deviation from the designated paths is allowed and vehicle access is strictly prohibited without prior consent of the landowner and only for the purposes of search & rescue or agreed workmeets. Booking: We are now using Google Calendar to record all visits. All visits to the hut must be booked in advance so that they can be logged on the Calendar. This is to enable anyone to see if there is space and who is using it. The current Calendar is shown below. (If you are not familiar with Google Calendar see the article in MCSA Connect for more information.) To make a booking, email the number of people wishing to stay, with MCSA membership numbers and full contact details (email and tel numbers) to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call the MCSA office. If you visit the hut unexpectedly without booking, then you must notify This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or the MCSA Office within 7 days of your visit, with the details as above. Numbers: The hut can accommodate 10 comfortably, 12 max. While camping is allowed and bigger parties can be accommodated, this is by special arrangement only and for groups from one section or organisation. i.e. if 12 individuals or small groups are using the hut, then the hut is fully booked. Note that for all Workmeets, the hut is fully booked i.e. you cannot visit the hut when a workmeet is on unless you are part of the workmeet. Hut fees: From 1 November 2009 the hut fees are R10/night for members, R20/members of other MCSA Sections and R40/night for visitors. This will increase to R20/night for members, R30/members of other MCSA Sections and R50/night for visitors as from 1 January with the abolition or the fuel levy. Fuel levy: As from 1 Sept 2009, firewood, charcoal and gas stoves has been be provided for reasonable use. To cover the cost of this, there is a fuel levy of R10/night/person was applicable to all (members or visitors). The conditions of use (or non-use) are stipulated in the hut and these must be followed, whether you make use of the fuel supplied or not. NB This was offered in a trial basis to see if it was feasible. The use has been responsible and reasonable so we can now offer this on an inclusive basis to all. But please note the requirements to record fuel use remain, albeit in a simplified form. Abolition of fuel levy as from 1 Jan 2009. The provision of gas, wood and charcoal has proved easier than we thought and members use has been reasonble. A new 3 burner gas stove has been installed with a back up cylinder so gas use can now be guaranteed. The hut is also being upgraded in other respects. To cover all these additional costs Gencom has approved that the hut fees increase from 1 Jan 2009 - as noted above. Hut registers: The old dual register (one for members and one for visitors) has been replaced with a single register. The pages from this register are archived from time to time. In addition a pen carbon book is provided in which additional comments about a stay can be added if you wish to. They are always read with interest by those who follow. The notes inclcude comments on work done, (as a record of work meets), birds sighted, walks done, poetry and much esle besides. They are a rich history of the hut. Calendar: Select either Month view or Agenda view. Click on any entry to see the details. To access the full Calendar, click on the Google Calendar icon at the foot of the Calendar. (Note: there is a bug in the Google Web browser Chrome and it does not display the calendar correctly. Use Internet Explorer or Firefox instead.)
